Quad, Balloon, Camel: From What Age Can Children Join?

Quad bikes, hot air balloons and camels often come in the same package in Marrakesh, yet each of these activities has its own rules for children. An age limit does not apply to the city or to the type of tour, but to the individual offer. On 10 September 2026 we read the booking pages of the most booked tours in our inventory. Three different limits emerged: three, four and thirteen years. And for the most popular combination of all, there was none.
That is the most important finding of this article. Anyone who trusts a friend whose child flew “from age four” may find a different rule with another operator. Quad bikes: children under 13 ride as a passenger
The quad bike tour to the palm oasis and the Jbilat desert (offer 458610) is listed in our inventory as 3 hours and €12.21, with 13,517 reviews. After pick-up, a minibus takes 20 to 25 minutes to reach the quad bike site, and you then spend two hours on the vehicle. The operator’s page states two limits. The activity is not suitable for children under four. And children under 13 must ride behind an adult on the quad bike. No driving licence is needed, and there is a separate price for children.
The rule about 13 years has a consequence that is easy to overlook: the child does not drive, they hold on for two hours. An eight-year-old might think this is brilliant, or have had enough after twenty minutes. And the adult at the front rides through dust and over rough ground with a child behind them. If you are not yet confident driving yourself, a quad bike with a child on the back is not the moment to practise.
What applies from age 13 is not stated on the page. This does not mean a 13-year-old gets their own quad bike. Ask exactly this before booking, and also ask about helmets in children’s sizes. Hot air balloon: three or four years, depending on the operator
For balloons, the two most booked offers differ. The balloon ride with Berber breakfast and certificate (offer 468535, 3 hours, €78.50 in our inventory) is, according to the operator’s page, not suitable for children under four.
The second offer (offer 743273, 5 hours) states a minimum age of three on its booking page. It also excludes children under 90 centimetres, as well as people with heart conditions. A minimum height makes sense for a basket with a tall rim: a child who cannot see over the edge mainly experiences a basket wall. According to the description, a camel ride is included in this offer.
Pay attention to the price. In our inventory, offer 743273 is listed at €12.49, the other at €78.50, and the median of all 20 balloon offers is €126.22. Such a large gap is a reason to check the final price for your whole family before paying, rather than multiplying the entry-level figure.
The balloon sets off early in the morning. Offer 743273 explicitly points out that the displayed time slot is not the actual pick-up time; that only comes after booking. For a young child, this often means: waking up in the dark, driving in the dark, waiting at the launch site while the balloon is filled. For some families, that is exactly the magic. For a child who struggles to get going in the morning, it is a long wait before an experience they will only really see once they are tall enough.
Camel: the gap in the most popular combination
The most booked offer in our entire inventory is the Agafay tour with quad bike, camel ride and dinner show (offer 486696): 42,986 reviews, 7 hours, €19.87. On the booking page, which we read on 10 September 2026, we found no age information, either for the quad bike or for the camel.
No information does not mean “no age limit”. It means you need to ask, and separately: is the child allowed on the camel, how are they secured there, and who drives on the quad bike? Do not apply the rule from offer 458610 to this package, even though both involve quad bikes. For the camel ride itself, it helps to have the process described to you: is the animal led, does the child sit in front of an adult or alone, and how long does the ride last? A child who is already scared of large dogs is rarely more relaxed on an animal that gets up back legs first, then front legs.

These limits are the operators’ own, not a recommendation from us. Whether a particular child should be medically fit to ride or fly is something to clarify with your child’s doctor. And being permitted to take part is not a safety guarantee.
When I would give it a miss
Under the age of four, I would not plan either a quad bike or a balloon, even where three years is permitted: the child gets little out of it, and you spend the whole morning or evening on it. For a child under 13, I would only book the quad bike if the accompanying adult feels confident and the child themselves likes the idea. And if only one parent wants to drive, a tour where the other can stay with the child at the camp is often the better day out.
